Altoona RR museum to host reading events to educate kids on local rail history

In commemoration of National Reading Month, the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum is teaming up with the Altoona Public Library to host "Railroad City Reads" at the museum.

The event is centered on reading railroading related books to young children.

It's free with regular admission to the museum and reading times are scheduled for noon, 1 and 2 p.m.

Staff at the museum say the key to appreciating local history is to educate others about it.

“Not only will the younger people learn about railroad city, and the heritage behind all of it, but it also gets the family in here. It will get the parents in here to come in; not only to entertain their children for a while, but also learn something themselves.”

For more details you can visit the museum’s website.
