Altoona VA celebrates Women's History Month; will host public forum on women's healthcare

The James E. van Zandt VA Medical Center is celebrating Women's History Month by highlighting female veteran's achievements and contributions to our history, culture, and society.

This year marks the 100th year for veteran's affairs caring for the women who've served in our military.

Officials say several events are being planned throughout the month, including a virtual women's public health forum, for female veterans, which will be held on Thursday.

The VA is hosting the event in an effort to educate female veterans on enrolling for VA care.

The event is open to all female veterans and will feature several speakers who specialize in the different medical concerns that women in the military have.

“We have women’s health practitioners, who are dedicated providers that specialize in care for the female veteran. We also have specialists who provide gyn services, maternity care and breast cancer care. We also provide mental health services for issues including military sexual trauma.”

Those interested in attending the women’s health public forum should call 814-943-8164, ext. 17186, to receive a Microsoft Teams link for the event.
