Brookville man charged for sexually assaulting 13-year-old girl
JEFFERSON CO, Pa (WJAC) — Police in Jefferson County say a Brookville man has been arrested, accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, according to a criminal complaint.
Authorities say 20-year-old Matthew Birch faces charges of statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors, according to court documents.
Investigators say on Feb. 18, police were contacted about a Childline report for a female who was possibly sexually assaulted.
Police learned that victim had spoken with a school counselor about the incident and disclosed that she and Birch had sex.
Authorities learned that Birch had stopped by the victim's home to visit and had asked "her permission" to have sex with her.
Upon further investigation, police interviewed Birch, on March 2, at which time he admitted to having sex with the victim.
Police say Birch "blamed her and wanted to get her in trouble for it."
Authorities say Birch also told police that he and the victim had exchanged sexual messages through Snapchat.
Birch was arraigned and subsequently released on $30,000 unsecured bail.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 11, court dockets show.
