Local power lifting champion opens a female-only gym

A local high-school grad is transforming the world of powerlifting into a safe-space for women.
Jamie Augustine is only 18 years old but already a world powerlifting champion and more recently a gym-owner.
She opened NaturalFit LLC just 7 weeks ago and is already seeing success due to her unique business model.
Her mission is to create an environment that focuses on establishing a supportive community of women that help each other reach their fitness goals.
“I wanted to make something super different that was just super special for people to come into," said Augustine. "I wanted it to be like you walk in and you feel super comfortable."
She leads several classes at the gym and all of them center around female empowerment and inclusivity.
"It's a super welcoming space," said Augustine. "That’s really what I wanted to focus on. Hearing just so many women being nervous going to the gym because they weren’t comfortable in their own skin, or they didn’t know how to use any of the equipment or even just guys staring at them while they workout. I wanted a place where women wouldn’t have to feel that way."
Augustine is also making and selling her own weight-plates which are made from concrete and cheaper than store-bought. This is just another way of making fitness more accessible she says.
You can sign up for fitness classes at the NaturalFit website. A free consultation is offered at no cost.
