Lead and arsenic are known to harm children’s brains, but despite alarming levels detected in baby food, the industry has remained unregulated. But that's about to change in Maryland, where the governor has signed into law a piece of legislation inspired by the Spotlight On America team's reporting.
A new law, signed by Governor Wes Moore, will require baby food makers to test their products for heavy metals like lead and arsenic, which are known to harm children's brains.
Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Police are investigating after a truck struck and killed a man who had fallen onto the roadway in Altoona Friday evening.
According to a Facebook post by the Altoona Police Department, the incident occurred Friday, just after 11 p.m., on the intersection of 6th Avenue and 12th Street.
Police said that the 80-year-old victim was walking in the area and had fallen onto the roadway.
Cambria County, Pa. (WJAC) — The Little Conemaugh River was stocked with fish in Cambria County on Saturday afternoon.
Volunteers released trout from the Route 53 Bridge in Wilmore to the breast of the Wilmore Dam.
The Wilmore Sportsman's Club raises about 8,000 of these trout every year, according to Marlin Minor, a long-time member of the club.

CHILI, N.Y. (WHAM) — A tractor-trailer hit two New York State Thruway Authority workers on Interstate 90, killing one and seriously hurting the other, according to police.
The workers were in a work zone when they were hit Thursday shortly before 12:30 p.m. Police said a 62-year-old man was killed, while a 58-year-old man was injured and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

BEIJING (AP) — China will draw a "separation line" atop Mount Everest to prevent the coronavirus from being spread by climbers ascending Nepal's side of the mountain, Chinese state media reported Monday.
A team of Tibetan mountaineering guides will set up the separation line at the peak before climbers attempt to reach the summit from the Chinese side, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
It was not clear what the separation line would be made of.
DUBOIS, Pa. (WJAC) — The American Rescue Plan injected some much-needed money to all the states, especially for education.
Dubois Area School District announced that it plans to direct some of that grant money toward assisting their homeless students.
A Dubois Area principal told us there are about 70 homeless students in the school district.
And with $51,000 in grant money, they plan to give these students a helping hand over the next three years.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Athletes traveled from out of state for a major boxing competition in Cambria County this past weekend.
Kastle Boxing in Johnstown held a “Battle at the Kastle” boxing event Saturday afternoon. The competition featured 15 fights between local boxers, as well as athletes from New York, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Altoona, State College, and DuBois.
Over one hundred audience members watched the fighters as they competed for the “fight of the night” trophies.
