'Squad' member applauds 'courageous' anti-Israel student protesters
WASHINGTON (TND) — Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., on Thursday applauded students from George Washington University for their work protesting Israel on their campus.
The GWU campus has been home to some of the most intense protests in support of Palestine as the academic year ends. Washington D.C. police on Wednesday cleared the school’s Gaza solidarity encampment, resulting in 33 arrests.

Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich. “From GWU to WashU, our students are being brutalized for protesting against the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.”Attached to the post were images of the representatives speaking before the Capitol at a podium reading “hands off our students, all eyes on Gaza.”
In a video of the event shared via X, Rep. Bush shared strong words with universities across the country.
“The protest isn’t meant to be comfortable,” she said. “It’s meant to be disruptive and if you don’t want folks to protest then prioritize humanity over profit.”
She continued to compare the protests to the women’s suffrage, civil rights ant anti-Vietnam War movements.
Throughout history, people chose not to listen to the students with the vision and the courage,” she said. “Today I invite my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to join me and my sister Rashida Tlaib and these brave students on the right side of history.”“Free Palestine,” she closed.
The speaking engagement is one of several moves Squad members are taking to support anti-Israel protesters. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., on Wednesday cheered the Biden administration’s decision to halt weapons shipments to Israel.
“President Biden enforcing conditions on US military aid and holding the Israeli gov to the same bar we hold all our allies to is the responsible, secure, and just thing to do,” she said on X. “@POTUS’s historic shift to include Israel in US standards makes the world safer and our values clear."
